Should You Buy Used Cell Phones?
Monday, January 31st, 2011Cell phones can be very expensive, especially if you are not getting them subsidized by a wireless service provider. The problem though, is the fact that if your phone gets damaged or simply stops working and you still have time in your contract, then you will not be able to get another for a very long time. The smart thing to do is look for used cell phones in very good condition. Since they are previously owned, you will get a great deal on them, and you will not have to use a faulty phone while you wait for your contract to expire.
Many people don’t ever consider getting a previously owned cell phone, but it is definitely a possibility. It is essentially like buying a used car. It helps if you know who the previous owner was so you can verify that they treated the phone right, but sometimes you don’t have that luxury. By going through a good dealer though, you should be able to buy in confidence. They will offer warranties on the phones, so you won’t have to worry about getting a lemon. Be sure sure to carefully examine the device before you go home with it, though.
One thing you need to keep in mind is that you might not get a used cell phone that is in mint condition. They are out there, but they are hard to find and when you do come across one, the owner will want a bit more money. The main benefit of a cell phone that was previously owned is the fact that you will not have to pay the outrageous prices of a brand new phone that has not been subsidized.
Another benefit to getting a cell phone that was used is the fact that it might allow you to get a device that would ordinarily be out of your price range. For example, if you have always wanted an iPhone or a BlackBerry but could never afford one, when you purchased them used you will save quite a bit of money. That will allow you to see if you really think they are worth the money.
